Enforcement timeline
The Election Commission has clarified that the Election Code of Conduct 2082 came into effect from the first week of Magh. That means activities by ministers, public officials, parties and candidates are now judged under election-period rules rather than normal administrative rules.
Directions to governments and agencies
The Commission has formally written to federal, provincial and local governments to align development spending, official visits and public events with the code of conduct. It has urged ministers and local officials to avoid inaugurations, new project announcements and discretionary grants that could influence voters during the campaign period.
Implications for candidates
Prospective candidates are being advised to separate party activities from official duties. Violations, such as using government vehicles in rallies or announcing new schemes from public offices, may attract warnings, fines or, in severe cases, cancellation of candidacy.
